Mountain Biking the “Mon”

Welcome to Slaty Fork! Home of the Elk River and one of the East Coast's earliest touring facilities and off road events. This is where the West Virginia Fat Tire Festival was held for many years, creating lifelong memories, friends and spectacular group experiences. The Wild 100, started in 1996 and running for 15 years, was one of the earliest mountain bike endurance races in the US.

We've been offering guided tours for cyclists of all abilities for over 33 years. We can take you riding, tell you where to ride, and offer advice on riding conditions and scenery. We have trail maps for off road and road riding for the region.

We host the Slaty Fork Women's Mountain Bike Weekend annually each August with some of the most experienced guides in the country. Learn the techniques that make technical WV trail riding fun!

"Start off slow. Keep it fun. Don't spend too much money on your first bike... Go to a couple of clinics like they have in Slatyfork WV - they offer single-track clinics. It's fun to get out and do some kind of clinic or tour with other people." —Sue Haywood, former pro Trek world team member, West Virginian and part time guide at Elk River Mountain Bike Guide Service

If you can't join us for a guided tour, single or half day guide service is available by reservation. If you're a novice, you will learn the basics of mountain biking and enjoy your West Virginia Mountain Biking experience all the more. If you're experienced, our guides will take you to the best local spots and delight you with their knowledge of the area's history and local lore.
